Ben Philpott, KUT News, looks at how the Medicaid cuts could affect Texas nursing homes.

State agencies facing the budget axe this session say the only thing left to cut are the services they provide.

Current budget proposals include a 10 percent cut to Medicaid reimbursement rates in Texas. Some health care lobbying groups say when you add in cuts to federal Medicaid funding, money that for now the state is not going to cover, you get a 33 percent cut. Now take those cuts and apply them to your average Texas nursing home, where a majority of residents are covered by Medicaid.
