“Music. We play music because we are huge fans of music. I’m sure that we are influenced on some level by other art or technology or history, but music plays a big part in our lives and has influenced and informed and inspired us heavily” — Nice Nice’s Jason Buehler.

ARTIST: Nice Nice
HOMETOWN: Portland, OR
LABEL: WARP RECORDS

PMT: Why are you playing at SXSW?
NN: I think for the same reason that most bands play sxsw- exposure. The festival is a great opportunity for music fans and music industry folks to check out bands that they might not ordinarily get a chance to see, so we are excited that we will get to play for a bunch of people who have never seen us before.

PMT: What do you want to see while you are in Austin?
NN: Well I doubt that we will get to see much beyond venues and taco carts and our hotel room, but hopefully we get a chance to explore the city a little bit. The real draw of the event is the music though, and that is really what we are looking forward to seeing.

PMT: What’s the biggest influence on your music?
NN: Music. We play music because we are huge fans of music. I’m sure that we are influenced on some level by other art or technology or history, but music plays a big part in our lives and has influenced and informed and inspired us heavily.

PMT: Do you like the current direction of the music industry?
NN: I’m not really sure what the current direction of the music industry is. I think here may be multiple directions. But things will change and things will stay the same and it will be good and it will be bad. It’s going to be interesting to watch either way.

PMT: What’s the biggest story in your hometown right now?
NN: Umm… The weather? The Portland Trailblazers? New food carts? I guess I don’t really know. We have been on tour a lot for the past couple of months….
