Houston Chronicle: Renewable energy technology promises hundreds of thousands of new jobs across the United States, a new study released Thursday concluded, but some regions will benefit more than others.

The study by Navigant Consulting, conducted for the renewable energy group RES Alliance for Jobs concludes that the country would gain 274,000 new jobs if Congress adopts a national standard requiring the production of 25 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025. Western states like California could become big winners in the alternative energy world, while wind-rich Texas will be a net loser unless current government policies are changed, the study found.

The study found that without stronger short-term targets for increased renewable energy use, industries like wind energy would experience flat job growth and long-term stagnation. That is one reason why the study noted Texas would lose renewable electricity jobs unless a national policy is passed, industry executives said in interviews. (more on this story)
